Reporting and output
The analysis only has value if something comes out of it that you can hand to a client. Reporting turns what is on the worksheets into documents in your organisation's house style.
Four documents per worksheet, two per canvas
Per worksheet there are four, each with a clearly separate task:
| Document | What it is | AI |
|---|---|---|
| Worksheet report | A faithful rendering of everything on the worksheet, empty fields included — meant for checking the content. The worksheet is the source; whatever you want to change, you change there. | none |
| Management summary | A descriptive summary. | describes, does not judge |
| Findings and advice | Cross-links, findings and recommendations — the document where judgement lives. | judges, recognisable as a proposal |
| One-pager | One A4 as a business text: where we stand, where it hurts and what we are doing about it and why. | writes the sentences |
On the canvas there are two: the bundle of the seven worksheets (with the summaries) and a One-pager of the whole canvas: the core message, the direction of the strategy, a panel per area with where it stands and what has to change, the guiding principles and the initiatives that are coming.
The summary does not draw on the findings: what describes and what judges stay separate, so a reader never mistakes a judgement for a description.
Strategy also has the Digital maturity document, from the established measurement (see Strategy). The IT report contains the chapter The landscape in layers.
The One-pager
A One-pager is a single page, without a cover. The counts and names come from the worksheet itself; the AI writes only the sentences around them, without counts. A red "End of page" line shows where the paper stops. If the text does not fit, the message says how many lines it is too long, and the AI rewrites a sentence that is too long to make it shorter instead of cutting it off.
A report is created when you open it
If you open a document that does not exist yet, it is created. For a report that the AI writes, a progress line is shown while it writes, for example "Block 3 of 8 · about 2 minutes left", with a running counter. A chapter that fails the first time is automatically rewritten once; if an update fails, the previous, valid version stays in place.
The worksheet report always shows the current state. You bring the other documents up to date with one button, Update. It rewrites a document only if the worksheet has changed, and text you edited yourself is kept: afterwards you choose between your text and the new one.
The report editor
In the editor you choose at the top which document you are making (per worksheet, with the canvas at the top), switch chapters on or off and, if you wish, hide empty fields. At the top of the left column are update, what needs your attention, the reviewed status, download and the version, together. Every setting or button that does nothing is greyed out and says why. Per chapter you see what the AI wrote, what is new and where the data changed; on paper nothing says that something was written by AI. Formatting in an edited field (paragraphs, bullet lists, bold, underline, italic) is kept.
What you see is what you download. There is no separate preview step. The editor shows the print-ready document, page breaks included, so there is no surprise between screen and PDF. Models and matrices — the process landscape, the customer journey, the capability model — are included as graphics.
Reviewing and downloading
Before downloading, every document asks once for your confirmation: "I have reviewed the content". Who did so and when is stored. If the worksheet changes, or a chapter with AI text is added, it asks again. That also applies to the reports of the whole canvas, the bundle and the One-pager. They only contain bottlenecks that you have accepted yourself; an AI proposal that is still waiting for your decision is not in them. While a report is being generated, no report can be downloaded.
| Format | Use |
|---|---|
| The end product for the client, in the organisation's house style. Every page except the cover carries "Page x of y" in the language of the canvas; tables break only between rows and repeat their column headings; the fonts are built into the app itself. | |
| HTML | For forwarding or internal reuse. |
A download always has the layout of the screen; if that fails, you see a message and nothing is stored.
Looking along
A reader of a canvas opens and reads a report without anything being created or updated. Downloading is possible once the report has been reviewed; otherwise a notice in plain language says what an editor has to do first. The example canvas shows pre-made reports, in Dutch and in English.
Outgoing documents
Every downloaded version of a report gets a version number, a name and a date and cannot be changed afterwards. You find them in the dossier, Outgoing tab, with the author; you can open them and download them again, and a version can only be deleted after a confirmation. A report you delivered two months ago can therefore be retrieved as it was then — even though the canvas has been developed further since.
Reports take over the organisation's house style: logo, colours and typography. An organisation therefore delivers the report under its own brand name. A report follows the language of the canvas.
